For the first time ever, a man has been cured of HIV. The remedy may nearly have killed him, but it opens a door—just a crack—to hope that we may someday kill off the scourge for good.

this is HUGE

THIS IS AMAZING, FINALLY!!

Why is this a good thing? HIV is a disease that is spread by poor sex practice. Most people get HIV by having gay unprotected sex while under the influence of crystal Meth. Yeah it’s good for those who were born with HIV but the rest of them are just victim to their own foolish mistakes. Whatever though. I’m not going to promote unprotected and grotesque sex practices.

What the fuck. How the hell can you claim that people who get HIV through sex do so by having ‘gay unprotected sex under the influence of crystal meth.’?
Contracting HIV is a tragedy, no matter who gets it. Believe it or not, gay people are not sluts, and some people - believe it or not - LIE. Not everyone who gets HIV is a drug user either. The curing of any horrible disease is a wonderful thing.
You may as well claim that anyone who develops lung cancer is a 10-pack-a-day-smoker, or that anyone who gets skin cancer does nothing but sunbathe. You said on your blog that your sister has children; I shall assume they are her biological children. What if her significant other had had AIDS when they were first together but didn’t tell her? Would she be the victim of her ‘foolish mistakes’? You can’t just blame people solely for their diseases.

Cue super rant/rebuttal to the negative comment above.

Wrong. HIV can be passed through many means. Sex is only one of them and not even necessarily the most common. HIV can be contracted from any exchange of bodily fluids, be that semen or blood. Mostly it is spread from mother to child.
However, even if HIV—which is the virus, by the way, AIDs is the disease— were spread through sexual contact only, you cannot just assume that everyone is sleeping around. Some people lie to their partners. Others don’t even know they have the virus until it’s too late. Stop generalizing.

Most people get HIV by having gay unprotected sex while under the influence of crystal Meth.

Sorry but…are you fucking kidding me? This comment just makes me inclined to dismiss anything you have to say altogether. That is a complete and utter falsity that has been disproved multiple times since the first HIV outbreak in the 1980s. Do your research.

Yeah it’s good for those who were born with HIV but the rest of them are just victim to their own foolish mistakes.

Perhaps they were careless, perhaps not. Either way, that does not mean they deserve to suffer and die. People make mistakes. That does not make them bad people. One’s personal choice regarding how they express their sexuality has nothing to do with the kind of person they are and is, frankly, none of your God damn business. Stop judging people you’ve never met.

Whatever though. I’m not going to promote unprotected and grotesque sex practices.

The fact that you would even suggest that someone’s sexual exploits are enough to condemn them to a disease such as this is what’s grotesque here. Your argument is childish and leads me to believe you are entirely ignorant on the subject. Don’t state your opinion like it is a fact when you obviously have no idea what you’re talking about.
That being said, this is such wonderful news. We’re another step closer to a cure for everyone. :D
